A new street furniture network that could save lives has launched in Cardiff. Five new digital phone kiosks that include an automated external defibrillator have been introduced across the city of Cardiff by JCDecaux UK, working with the Community Heartbeat Trust charity, the UK’s leading community defibrillator charity. The kiosks combine the latest in digital advertising technology with free public services that will benefit local residents and visitors to Cardiff.  A key part of the street furniture is an automated external defibrillator, which can be used by the public to save lives.

A new street furniture network that could save lives has launched in Cardiff.  Five new digital phone kiosks that includes an automated external defibrillator have been introduced across the city of Cardiff.

Provided free-of-charge and funded by advertising, the life-saving street furniture have been installed in Cardiff locations including Queen Street (x2), Churchill Way, Hills Street and The Hayes, thanks to this unique partnership between The Community Heartbeat Trust Charity and JCDecaux UK.

In addition to the defibrillator, the new phone kiosks will include a range of public services including an accessible payphone, Wi-Fi and USB charging stations, and a 32" interactive touch screen with wayfinding and council information – all paid for by advertising.
The Community Heartbeat Trust Charity and JCDecaux UK have developed an innovative way to bring life-saving equipment to the Welsh public. Through Save a life Cymru we are encouraging people to be more aware of the importance of CPR, and be confident to use it in a life or death situation. The chance of surviving an out of hospital cardiac arrest decreases with every passing minute. Survival rates are low but there is the potential for many more lives to be saved through prompt and effective CPR and use of a defibrillator. Vaughan Gething, Minister for Health and Social Services

We are delighted to work with JCDecaux UK to bring defibrillators to Cardiff. Cardiac arrests can happen to anyone at any time and after calling 999 and doing CPR, using a defibrillator offers the best chance to save a life. Early defibrillation can triple a victim’s chance of survival. With clear voice and visual instructions that guide the user through the process, these defibrillators are straightforward to use and require no special training, although we will work with the communities near these kiosks to offer training. We would urge everyone to be prepared, be ready and save a life Martin Fagan, National Secretary, The Community Heartbeat Trust charity

JCDecaux has worked closely with The Community Heartbeat Trust charity to bring these defibrillators to some of the UK’s busiest streets including Cardiff – providing a valuable public service that could save lives when time is of the essence. This innovative street furniture is located in the busiest locations where people are out shopping, commuting and socialising, benefiting residents and tourists as well as local and national brands. As this initiative shows, Outdoor advertising can play a key part in communities through the provision of public amenities funded by advertising including this innovative street furniture with defibrillators and wayfinding information. Phil Drye, Chief Commercial Development Officer at JCDecaux UK
